Why Should I Learn to Meditate at Atlanta Restorative Acupuncture?

By Dr. David Blake Jones, DACM, LAc, MSPH

Atlanta Restorative Acupuncture offers an easy to learn, easy to practice meditation technique called Primordial Sound Meditation (PSM). Through PSM, we do not force the mind to be quiet, we simply enter the quiet that is already there, buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day.  Learning this technique is an excellent option for many reasons. Below, I will briefly discuss two and then explain why learning it from the instructor at Atlanta Restorative Acupuncture is a great choice.

First, everyone, no matter how “evolved” or “enlightened,” faces stress.

Stress is simply the experience of frustration over an unfulfilled desire.  It does not matter if that desire is to be wealthy, to win someone’s love, or for a red light to turn green, if a desire goes unfulfilled, it causes stress. What is surprising to most people is that even if only at a sub-conscious level, our minds interpret a frustrated desire and thus, stress, as a threat to our survival!  Because stress activates physiological changes that are long term, highly destructive to our health and wellbeing, it is especially important for each person to learn how to manage stress.  Regular Primordial Sound Meditation practice is indeed the most practical thing you can do for your health for it is a powerful disease prevention tool (See examples of scientific research on PSM and other similar techniques at https://atlantarestorativeacupuncture.com/scientific-research-on-meditation/).  But the effects of regular PSM practice go beyond self-help.  PSM is an effortless way to manage stress and even transcend it so that we can transform our negative experiences, help ourselves, and ultimately help the world.  When we cultivate inner peace, we help to foster peace outside ourselves.

This inner peace does not result from external things.  Someone once said that happiness for a reason, is just another form of misery. PSM brings us in touch with the part of our-self that is always happy or in bliss, beyond circumstances.

Why Should I Learn to Meditate

The second reason why you should learn to practice PSM is the role of meditation in pain management.

People who are in chronic pain are often overly sensitized to pain.  Meditation is an especially helpful practice for helping to desensitize people in chronic pain.  Combined with gentle Acupuncture techniques, the use of the Alpha Stim device (available at Atlanta Restorative Acupuncture), a patient practicing a solid meditation technique like PSM can expect to have especially good (greater pain reduction, less sensitivity, and faster healing) results from a treatment protocol.  In fact, one study that examined neuroimaging of meditation’s effect on brain reactivity to pain, showed that five months practice of a technique like PSM, TM, led to 40-50% fewer voxels responding to pain in the thalamus, prefrontal cortex, and total brain.  See https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2170475/ to learn more about this study

Third, although PSM is easy to learn and easy to practice, it is important to have solid instruction.

There are subtleties to meditation practice that are best shared by a long-time practitioner of PSM who has been practicing and teaching for many years.  Dr. David Blake Jones, DACM, Atlanta Restorative Acupuncture’s certified Primordial Sound Meditation instructor, has been teaching meditation since 2006, after practicing the technique for about 10 years.  His long experience with the technique and as an instructor makes him an obvious choice for people on the path of inner growth.

Atlanta Restorative Acupuncture’s meditation classes are perfect for you.

Finally, if you have an interest in taking a meditation class, but do not believe you have the time to attend weekly sessions that may or may not help you be able to meditate on your own, Atlanta Restorative Acupuncture’s meditation classes are perfect for you.  Aside from a brief 10 to 15-minute interaction with Atlanta Restorative Acupuncture’s PSM instructor, Dr. David Blake Jones, DACM, you do not need to attend a meditation class either in person or via Zoom.  The great majority of the Atlanta Restorative Acupuncture Primordial Sound Meditation class (about 3 and ½ hours long) is now offered via sessions of online recordings.  So, you can learn the Primordial Sound Meditation technique at your own pace.

The cost to learn PSM is only $395, or $295 if you are a patient at Atlanta Restorative Acupuncture. This price is an extremely wise investment given the long-term health and wellness benefits that come from regular meditation practice.

Why Should I Learn to Meditate-2

Why you should learn to meditate?

Many people think of it as a way to reduce stress and develop concentration. People also use the practice to develop other beneficial habits and feelings, such as a positive mood and outlook, self-discipline, healthy sleep patterns, and even increased pain tolerance.

What is the main purpose of meditation?

The main purpose of meditation is to strengthen your conscious mind so you can use your conscious mind to understand yourself, gain better control over your mind and body and get access to higher intelligence.

Testimonial

Dr. Jones is a great doctor – very knowledgeable in TCM, meditation and holistic modalities. I originally came for digestive issues, but have got help with multiple issues over the few months I’ve been coming. I recently had TMJ pain for weeks that he was able to relieve after just one session. Has great bedside manners, will chat or be quiet and peaceful, whichever you’re in the mood for. Thanks Doc!- Adam Girardot
